GALENTO HAD NOT THE PUNCH TO WIN IN THE THIRD ROUND.

A RINGSIDE* critic comments that Tony Galento had his opportunity of beating Joe Louis in the third round. In the next, however, the negro quickly assumed the mastery, and his challenger had dropped to the floor a bleeding pulp, when the referee mercifully stopped the contest.

"When the champion arose in the third round from the canvas and managed to stave off Galcntoe rush for the rest of the round Tony's hopes came to an end," says the critic in a United Press Association message received yesterday afternoon, subsequent to the round for round description published in the City Krlition. When Oalento attempted to rise after being knocked down in the fourth round, his face was badly injured and the referee, by stopping the bout, undoubtedly saved the challenger from serious injury. Louis has been floored only four times in his career, and no one had previouely knocked Galento off his feet.
