ALL-MAORI PLATOON FORMED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Thursday. Believed to be the first of the kind in New Zealaiu, an all-Maori platoon lias been formed in Hastings in the Territorial recruiting drive. TwentyMaoris of the distri.'t enlisted together and a platoon has l,.;en established, which it is hoped will be controlled bynative non-commissioned oflicers and oflieere. "This call of the nation has been nobly answered by these Maori people," said the Hastings recruiting officer, Mr. H. McKay, to-day. "Their example is one that is well worthy of emulation." When the Maoris have been medically examined and passed, and have taken the oath of allegiance, they will be fitted with uniforms. It is expected that this will be in about a month's time.
