All women justices of the peace in the Auckland district were invited to this meeting, and a numlier of apologies were received from those unable to attend. Those present were Miss B. Carnachan, M.8.E., in the chair, Mrs. Allum, Mrs. Bremner. Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Teape, Mrs. Cassidy, Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Winks. Mrs. Molesworth. Mrs. Young, Mrs. Giles, Mr.s. Hutchinson and Miss C'olebrook. Members stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of Miss Teape, an Auckland woman justice, who recently passed away. Congratulations were extended to Miss Carnachan on the recent honour conferred upon her by the King in recognition of her social services. Condolences were also extended to Mrs. Von Sturmer in the loss of her hxisbaiid. Mrs. N. M. Molesworth. who was the only woman delegate at the recent conference of justices of the peace held in Timaru, gave an interesting account of

the proceedings, and the remits dealt with. Of the subjects discussed, 18 remits concerned the welfare of women and children, and six of them originated in the women's committee of the Auckland Association. Among the remits carried at the conference was one urging that in the domestic courts, a woman justice of the peace should occupy the Bench with the magistrate, as is already the case in the children's court. It was also unanimously decided that women should now be permitted to serve on juries. Another remit, carried unanimously, urged the appointment of married women to the proposed domestic relations courts. Mrs. Molesworth was thanked for her interesting report, which showed the value of the woman's contribution to conferences on social questions. An interesting letter was received from a country member advocating that justices make a study of the psychology of delinquency, so as to qualify for duties involving tlie treatment of children and young offenders. This subject will be made one for special study by the committee.
