AUCKLAND RESPONSE.
CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION.
Disappointment has been expressed at the Auckland response to an appeal for funds for the Auckland provincial exhibition in the Dominion court at the Centennial Exhibition at Wellington. It was estimated th-1 £48,000 was required to finance the court, and Wellington agreed to fir : £11,000. Other allocations were:—Auckland, £8000; Canterburv, £7500; Otago, £7000; Southland, £3000; yelson-Buller, £2350; North Auckland, £2100; Westland. £9000; Hawke's Bay, 1500; Taranak-, £1350; and Marlborough, £1000. An appeal was made to local bodies in the Auckland province, with a result that only «9 per cent of the amount aimed at has been covered by promise*. It was stated to-day that some local authorities which had decided not to contribute showed a high degree of geographical continuity and there had ' en other local bodies who were of the opinion that their assessments should be reduced. lu some districts the response has been particularly good.
