Theobold Wolfe Tone, who lived from 1703-98. was an Irish lawyer and politician who became involved in political intrigue as secretary of the Catholic Committee. He is alleged to have given information about Ireland to France and urged a French invasion of Ireland.

He committed suicide while waiting execution for treason.
