GOOD SCORING AT MIDDLEMORE.

WILLIAMS WINS STABLEFORD WITH ROUND OF 72.

There were several splendid rounds at .Middiemore on Saturday in a Stableford competition. Jt was won bv last year's club champion, G. W. S. Williams", but only on a couijt back, ami then after he had had a round of 72—the scratch score ot the course. F. P. Worley, who tied with Williams with a score of 38 points, played well below his handicap. His medal round was 87—22—05. W. A. Donald scored 37 points with a round of 74. another first-class effort. Another to better his handicap was T. Gill, whose medal round was 81—12—69. for a points score of 30. He was playing F. Lintott in the Xo. 2 Captain's Prize and despite his good round was beaten. Lintott was not m the Stableford but had a medal round of 70.

The sequel to those performances was that Williams was reduced from 3 to 2, Worley from 22 to 20, Gill horn 12 to 11, .-Hid Lintott from 8 to 7. In the final of the Captain's Prize, D. V. Rogers beat 10. L. Bartleet. He played well and was little inferior to Bartleet in the first half in which he was iu receipt of five strokes. It was not until Rogers lost his drive on the eighth fairway that he lost a hole. At the \uri., where Bartleet just missed his birdie 4, which would have given him a half, Bartleet was four down. It was a hopeless position with live strokes still to come. Though Bartleet got two threes, a four, and a three in the next four holes he won only the tenth and eleventh. At the fourteenth Bartleet three-putted when he had a chance to win, and the end came at the fifteenth when Rogers made a remarkable recovery from under the trees at the back of the green.
