OVER TWO THOUSAND.

ENTRIES FOR EXHIBITION. WHANGAEEI SOCIETY'S SHOW. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAEEI, this day. For the first time in its history the Whangarei Agricultural and Pastoral Society has reched the 2000 mark in its winter exhibition entries, this figure excluding the entries in the educational section, which is now solely an exhibition class. Discussing the notable increases this year, the secretary. Mr. t'. P. Butler. said that at last the national bacon pig rhainpion'-hip could truly be called national, the lt'i-1 exhibits representing the whole of the Dominion. Tlic phenomenal increase in the farm and garden produce section is partly due to the determination of Northland growers that the awards this year shall not go mainly to Rotorua as in previous years. Satisfactory increases in the preserves, baking and needlework sections also disclose a pleasing growth of interest. The decrease of 140 in the pigeon, poultry and cage bird class is thought to be'due to the lateness of the Onehunga show, which in the past has synchronised with the Northern event. "The one disappointing feature this year is the absence of Maori exhibit*. This, according to Mr. Butler, is owing to the departure from the North of Mr. M. R. Findlay. native supervisor, who. as chief steward, built the section to one of great general interest. The entries' this year total 2305 as ~ .-. : iist 1001 last year, and 1771 in 1937.
