THREE RESIGN.

PROFESSORS AND LECTURER.

OTAGO UNIVERSITY CHANGES. (IPivm Our Correspondent.) DUNKDIN, Tuesday. Threw members of the medical staff i»f Otago University, two profewsore and ii/ lecturer, tendered their resignations to a meeting of the Otago University ■•nuwil today. Dr. D. W. Carmalt Jones, professor of systematic medicine, ii nd l)r. F. W. Fitcl.ett, professor of clinical medicine. wrote givinjj six month* , notice of their intention to resign from their respective positions, and Dr. K. H. Williams tendered his resignation as lecturer on diseases of ■children. The resignations were accepted with regret, and high tributes were paid to the valuable services rendered to the university by the retiring professors and lecturer. The chancellor. Mr. W. J. Morrell, ill reply to a question, said the vacancies would be covered by the new chair of medicine.

It was recently announced that Dr. F. H. Smirk, a member of the staff of the Egyptian University of Cairo, had been appointed to the chair of medicine. T)r. Carmalt Jones was appointed physician and dean of the medical school at "Westminster Hospital in 1008 and subsequently became director of the department of bacterio-therapeutics. After war service he was appointed to Otago University in 1920. Dr. Fitchett liecame a lecturer at Otago University in 1911 and was appointed a professor in 1919. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
