INJURY TO CYCLIST.
OTAHUHU PROSECUTION.
ACCIDENT WAS NOT REPORTED.
In imposing a fino of '£•"> on a motorist, Joseph Spence, in the Tolice Court, Otahuhu. yesterday, the niagistrate. Mr. W. H. McKean, said that little reliance could be attached to defendant's statement. He had failed in his duty to reiort an accident and he imagined it was his condition that made him wish not to go near the police that ni'.'ht. .('unstable Archibald said that at fi.lo p.m. on -May 2 lie was called to the scene of an accident at Wostfield, a cyclist having been knocked off his bicycle by a motorist. The driver of the car" had not waited and the cyclist pointed out the point of impact. Next day defendant made a statement at the Otahuhu Police Court. Constable Xiocol said that on May 17 he interviewed the defendant at the Westfield freezing works, and he admitted that on the day of the accident he had worked until noon, then went to Auckland in his car and returned to Otahuhu later, where he visited an hotel. The rider of the cycle, David Evan*, said defendant's chr struck him. knocking him from his cycle and injuring his thigh. He was riding well over on his right side of the bitumen. He asked defendant to wait for the police, but he would not do so. The cycle was badly damaged.
