BOXING CONTESTS.
JOHNSON DEFEATED,
(By Telejiniph.—Press Ass/ieintion.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Making an auspicious cf>nie-back after ten months. Barney Down I Wellington) beat Don Johnson (Auckland) by a technical knock-out in -the ninth round of a professional welter-weight boxing contest scheduled for twelve rounds to-night. It was a bright display of scientific boxinc. in which both men moved fast and showed nimble footwork and clever defence. They were well matched as to height, weight and reach.
NEW ZEALAND FEATHER-WEIGHT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. A bout for the vacant feather-weigh*, boxing title in Aeh-burton to-night between Lex Greaney (8.10). of Dunedin. and Fred Finnigan (8.12%), of Wellington, -.vae won by Greati'-y on a technical knock-out in the middle of the fifth round. Orpaney proved to be a stylish fighter, and Finnigan. who appeared to lack condition, took a count of eieht before the referee stopped the tight. Four challenges to meet the winner have been received by the Ashimrton Boxing Association.
