Several Southern Winter Fixtures Open To-morrow

Gallops At Dunedin, Wanganui And Napier Park: Trots At Methven Course

WANGANUI FINALS.

REHEARSAL APPEALS.

NATIVE SONG'S FAST FIVE

FOXLOVE FOR CONNOLLY.

(Special to " Star.")

WAXI; AXUL Thursday

The. weather w«« fine this morning for the- final gallops fur the first day's raring at Wanganui on Saturday. Tho tracks wiM-u firm and fast. So. 1 was open for fast work. Arrivals last night included Solaria. Airain. F.astern Heir and Student Prince. Homily and Rehearsal wore "riven a good working gallop over six furlongs. Hoth these horses are very fit. Rehearsal having come on well since racing at Awapuni. Thi* son of Limond must be hard to beat in his engagements. Footloose Hnd Liberal's Mint both hit nut nicely in running half a mile, the la~t three furlongi* taking 37 3-."is. Liberal':- Mint should give a good account of hinit-clf in the Borough Hack Handicap. (ilenvane. looking in great fettle, cleared five of the schooling fences in fine style. Silk Sox was cantered and then given a good working gallop over five furlongs. Tho Royal Divorce gelding is in good fettle and should be handy in the (Jrandstand Steeples. Captain Treville slipped over half a mile nicely :n r>ls. The race he had at Awapuni ha* brightened this gelding up. Fntail (\V. Rayner) put in a gallop over six furlongs, the at moderate pace, but he then sped along to cover the last five in 1.3 4-5, the six taking 1.17. Lord Hereford and Sporting Song were associated in a good working gallop over six furlongs, registering 1.18. Lowenberg was sprinted half a mile with a light boy up, registering 51 l-ss. This gelding is coining on rapidly, and. all going well, should be back to his best at Trentham next month. Xative Song (F. Tinsley) was much too good for Vaals (!reen in a sprint over five furlongs. finishing several lengths in front in the good time of 1.1 4-.->. after running the first three furlongs in :itl<. If this gelding races up to his past form, he will take a lot of beating in his engagements. Amoroso jumped much better than he did on Tuesday in a bout over five hurdles with Student Prince. The latter did not appear to be in the humour. Amoroso screwed at one or two hurdles a little, but gave a good display, and looks likely with his paee to do well over the batten*. Rilling Star (J. Belcher) and Silver Sight (R. P. Register) went a mile together in 1.47 2-3 without bein" ridden out. Might (G. Sexton) and Foxlove (W. K. Ellis) were companions over*a similar distance, finishing on terms in 1.44 4-3 both hiirsos hitting out well. Foxlove is a very fit horse and is sure to lie well supported in the Connolly Handicap, while Might appears all the better for his recent efforts. Dungarvan (<;. Sexton) hit out freely in running six furlongs ; n ],|j o .~i t j," c first three in 38 l-.-.s, and the half-mile in r>l :?-.">s. (i.ilden Pain (K. Chote) gave Kurotas (M. Horne) a break of two lengths in a spin over half a mile, but was up with him early, and finished in front in 40 4-.")s. This mare will only'need to be in tho right humour to be hard to beat in the Borough Hack Handicap on .Saturday. Solaria, looking bright and well, was restricted to three-quarter pace work He will be one of the chief fancies for the Winter Oats. Amigo (with his plates on) sprinted six furlongs with K. Chote in the saddle in 1. ,» He went very fast over the first half-mile, taking 49 3-f>s, but appeared to be tiring a bit at the end. As this was his first real work-out, it was a good performance, and he should be hard to beat on Saturday. War Laj) (S. T. Edward's) slipped over six furlongs in 1.1.5 3-5, finishing on in attractive style. Princess Isabel is evidently to start in the Century Hurdles instead of the hack event, as I. Rohloff has been engaged to ride her in the big race. Riding Engagements. The following riding engagements have been announced: — W. J. Broughton.—Rehearsal. Sniper Mataroa, Aureus, Liberal - * Mint.
