REUNION OF OLD PUPILS.

FOUR-DAY CELEBRATION'S START

Despite wet weather about .")00 people attended the reunion celebrations of the Ellerslie School, which opened last night witli a successful function for past pupils nt the school. The formal ceremony was brief, being conlined to speeches by Mr. A. 1). Bines, chairman of the reunion committee. Mr. .T. Wooller. a former headmaster, and Mr. A. t! Dow. secretary-organiser. The school bell was then rung by the earliest pupil (.resent. Mrs. A. E. Sloman. formerlv Miss Ada Olney. who was a pupil i' n 1574, and the former scholars then went into the school in decades.

I he function was held mainlv to allow past pupils to renew acquaintance at the outset of the four-dav reunion. The ground* were specially floodlit, while the classrooms had been arranged for the different decades, interest being centred in the display of photographs of groups of former pupils. The celebrations were continued today, when sports and displays bv the children were arranged, the pupils' being the guests of the old scholars. At the roll call to-morrow afternoon addresses will be given by Mr. W. J. Campbell", chairman of the Auckland Education Board, Mr. A. <>. Osborne. M.P.. Mr. \ A Buckley, president of the Auckland School Committees' Association. Mr. H. ■J. White. Mayor of Ellerslie and an old pupil of the school. Mr. .1. Marsh, the present headmaster, and Mr. J. Vugler. a past headmaster. The school bell oii this occasion will she rung bv Mrs. C A. White, u pupil in 1877.
