LABOUR MAY LOSE
FEDERAL BY-ELECTION
(Received 12 noon.) BRISBANE, this day. At the close of the counting in the Federal by-election for the Griffith electorate caused by the death of Mr. F. M. Baker, Mr. W. P. Conelan (Lab.) had 21,737; Mr. P. McCowan (United Australia) 16,418, and Mr. E. H. Graham (Protestant Lab.) 14,738.
The result will depend on the distribution of Mr. Graham's preferences, the majority of which are expected to go to Air. McCowan, giving him the victory.
