VERY WORRIED.
BROKEN ENGAGEMENT. YOUNG MAN'S SUICIDE. Evidence that the deceased had been worried since November of last year when he broke off his engagement was given at an inquest held to-day by the coroner, Air. F. K. Hunt, into the death of Selwvn Wallace Burfield, factoryhand, aged 21, whose death occurred on May 5 at the home of his parents, 28, Queen's Way, Mount Roskill.
The father said that deceased arrived home from work on May 5 and complained of neuralgia. He went into his bedroom and whilst in the kitchen witness heard a shot. Entering the bedroom he found his son lying on the bed with a bullet wound in the forehead. A .22 calibre single-shot rifle was alongside. Deceased was then alive, but died in seven minutes. He was of average mentality and had not mentioned taking his life. He had had the rifle since March 11 last and had kept it in a wardrobe. A verdict of suicide was returned.
