CONFERENCE OPENED. TALK ON WORLD AFFAIRS. Delegates from the various branches of the Women's Institutes affiliated with the Auckland Provincial Association of Institutes, gathered in the Milne and C'hoyee reception room tins morning for tlie o|«'iiinjr of the bi-annual conference. A welcome to the many delegate* and members w>ll< given liy the act in;;-presi-dent, Mrs. A. Black more, who presided at the meeting. Following the presidentV welcome, a talk on international affairs was jiivpn by Mrs. Kenneth dorilon. Tn her address. Mrs. (iordon stressed the fact that throughout the world to-day there was ,i greater will for peace than had ever been known before. Mrs. (iordon gave a brief description of the attitudes of the various Kuropeati countries to-day, stating that the most formidable enemy to Hitler",-; desire for destruction was the ever-growing feeling against it among the peoples of the world. The progi amine for the ilay included vocal polos by Mrs. T.ithgow and Mrs. 1 ,, . l\o»se, a talk on "Correct Procedure' , by Mrs. Hewson, and the display of institute work. The afternoon's programme also included dramatic work produced by the various institutes, and to-night a further drama programme will lie held in the Town Hall Concert Chamber. To-morrow the business section of the conference will be f dealt with and remits submitted by branches of the Women'i Institutes will be discussed.
