OBITUARY.

MRS. ALICE TWIDLE. After being a resident of the Dominion for 64 years, Mrs. Alice Twidle, of Buckland, has died at the age of 82. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Walters, she was born in London and when 17 years of age accompanied her parents to New Zealand. They settled at Auckland, where Mr. Walters followed his occupation as a gardener. At the age of 19, Mrs. Twidle married Mr. William Stephenson Twidle at Hamilton. Several years later Mr. Twidle became associated with the Land Development Association with which he remained 28 years. About 30 years ago they settled at Bombay, later taking up property at Buckland. Mr. Twidle died 17 years ago. Two sons and three daughters survive Mrs. Twidle. MR. G. H. POWNALL. (By Telegraph.— Tress Association.) , WANGANUI, Thursday. Following a short illness the death has occurred of Mr. G. H. Pownall. a former president of the New Zealand Kugbv Union. Mr. Pownall had been a resident of Wanganui for oO years and was an old boy of the Wanganui Collegiate School. He represented Wanganui in three sports, Rugby, tennis and athletics. He was a noted middle-distance runner in his day. He was one of the foundation members of the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association and was for many years associated with the administration of both Rugby and tenuis in Wanganui. He was a life member of both the Wanganui and New Zealand Rugby Unions. A public-spirited citizen, Mr. Pownall took a keen interest in local body affairs and was a foundation member of the Wanganui and District Development League. He was a prominent Mason. MR. He was recognised as one of the leaders in the economic transition of the natives. He was a staunch churchman, a keen sportsman, and was deeply interested in the reconstruction of Maori communal life on the basis of economic self-sufficiency. MR. P. G. MOFFATT. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) KELSOX, Friday. The death occurred suddenly last evening of Mr. Percy G. Moffatt, for many years harbourmaster at Motiieka. He leaves a widow, who is a member of the Neleon Hospital Board, and four children. Majgolm Moffatt (Motueka), Mrs. W. Crussell (Motueka), Mrs. Anglesey (Tadmor) and Miss Moffatt, matron of Grey Hospital.
