A fire occurred on board the Shaw SavilL liner Zealandic «t Victoria • lock. The crew and several fire brijrauVs had a hard for an hour and ]() minutes before they got the rtaiues under control, the fierce heat and suffocating smoke hampering them in the task. The outbreak appeared to start near a boiler by the ignition of waste crudo oil. Consi lerable damage was done to tin! engine room and adjoining hatch. The Zcalandic arrived from Loiulon yesterday. So extensive is the damage caused by the live that it is indefinite when the ship will sail. Until a more thorough inspection ran he made tomorrow it will not be known whether the Zealandic will have to enter dry dock for repairs. Jf this is neces-ary temporary repairs will lie made hen- and the ship will be taken to Sydney to enter dry dock. Arrangements will then have to lie made for, tin , transhipment of the cargo. Surveyors, marine, engineers and representatives of the agents spent most of to-day inspecting the damage. The Zealandic w.is to have reached N'-ew Plymouth from CairiiH on .May 27 to load, and she was scheduled to complete her cargo ['or Kntrlaud at I'ictiin. Wellington. NiipiiM' and 'Ancklanil.
