MOTOR CYCLE TESTS. L. EVANS REGISTERS 113.38 M.P.H. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Streaking along the paved West Coast Road at 115.38 miles an hour at dawn this morning', L. Evans established a new Dominion motor cycle *peed record. One hundred yards from the end of the timed half mile the tread of one of Evans' tyre«s stripped off, but the run; was completed without mishap. A series of speed events were held on the stretch of bitumen. The trials were held, under the supervision of the Transport Department, by the Canterbury Auto Cycle Club. Machines in various classes covered half a mile in each direction, the runs being electrically timed. It is the club's intention to attack today's record at similar trials next year. Evans, riding an O.K. Supreme, touched 120 miles an hour durinjr his record run, the accepted time of 115.38 miles an hour being the average of his two runs. All the trials were made from flying starts. The results of the trials were:—
250 c.c.—O. Williams (Rudge), 76.92 m.p.h.
350 c.c.—M. Wear (Veloeette), 98.9 m.p.h.
500 c.c. —L. Evans (O.K. Supreme), 111,8 m.p.h., 1; A. Trustrum (A.J.S.), 100.51 m.p.h., 2; T. Stanley (Xorton), 105.88 m.p.h., 3; A. Lamport (J.A.F.), 103.45 m.p.h., 4; R. Rodgers (A.J.S.), 100.50 m.p.h., 5.
Open Class. —L. Evans (O.K. Supreme) 114.65 m.p.h.
In a later attempt Evans established his record of 115.38 m.p.h.
