WANGANUI TRACK.

HAWERA CANDIDATES. AIRING BEST HALF-MILE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Saturday. Ideal weather prevailed for training operations this morning, when the semifinal gallops of horses with engagements at Hawera took place. The course proper, with the trestles out 15ft, was open, the going being on the soft side. Rehearsal (W. Kayner) and Homily (F. Latham) were companions in a spin over five furlongs, which they left behind in 1.4 2-5, both going along well within themselves. Reheaisal was galloping particularly well, and is evidently considerably improved since Waverley. The first quarter took 25 l-ss, and three furlongs 38s. Rehearsal is to contest the hack six on Thursday, and on Saturday will be a starter in the Hack Cup.

Homily has dropped out of the Mcßae Handicap, in which her etablemate Entail will be a runner. The latter went six furlongs this morning in 1.18 2-5, bowling along in fine style, and he appears to be in splendid fettle.

The best gallop - of the morning was put up by Airing, who left half a mile behind in 50 2-ss. The Cockpit gelding revelled in the going, and he should run well in the Hawera Handicap. No rider has yet been engaged for him. War Lap (S. T. Edwards) went five furlongs by himself in 1.4 3-5, doing it nicely.

Amatory, (R. Horne) and Eurotas (Edwards) were associated over half a mile, finishing on terms in' 51* without being ridden out. Amatory has dropped out of his first day's engagements at Hawera, but will probably be taken up for the Hack Cup on Saturday. Eurotas is to run in the seven-furlong hack event on Thursday, when he should make a good showing, as he is steadily on the improve.
