ORAKEI BUS SERVICE.
I would like to point out on behalf of a large section of this community the need for a better service to the Orakei State suburbs durinjr the evenings. There is no service from 7.40 p.m. to 10 p.m. surely far too long a gap for a community of over one thousand people. With winter almost upon us, many lectures will be commencing, sued as the evening courses at the university, Technical College, W.E.A., St. John Ambulance. Red Cross, and many other societies. These lectures all terminate at fl'-p.m., leaving young- people—many of whom are at work all .lay—to wait around the city for an hour before there is a. bus home. The only alternative is for them to walk home from the waterfront road, and for those at the end of the settlement that is a trek of about one mile and a half, with no shelter. Another plea is for a bus shelter at the corner of Reihana Road and Coates Avenue at Orakei. On a wet day it is an extremely uncomfortable place to wait, as the nearest sheltering verar.dah is half a mile distant, and this spot, being the intersection of four roads, is swept by a very keen wind, which, in addition to the rain, made it about the coldest place in Auckland last winter. On Sundays there is no transport from the city to the State suburb between 6.35 p.m. and 9.40 p.m. As there is no church of any sort at Orakei it is necessary to visit the city, and here, again, a bus at 9 p.m. would eliminate a long wait to those who visit church—and their number, in spite of what one hears, is legion.
