AVONDALE LAND.
COMPENSATION CLAIM. Before Mr. Justice Calian, sitting with Mr. "Kan furl y Smith and Mr. H. A. Darrow as a Compensation Court yesterday afternoon, Mr. R. P. Towle led evidence of the value of 11 acres of land on Avonilale Flats taken by the Education Department as a school site, for which the Guardian Trust and Executors Company, Ltd. (as trustees under the will of the late Thomas Belcher) claimed £2245 compensation. Mr. Prcndergast appeared for claimants. William John TaH, land agent, said in evidence that he valued the property ■•it. £1450. He had considered it for rut ting up. and gave figures indicating, his view that the property was not a payable proposition for subdivision. The land had been largely worked out
as a market garden, but could be made a fair paying proposition for that purnose. - Wil'iam Wallace, land valuer, placed, the value of the property at £1350. He said he did not think the property had any .nine as a subdivision. r>r for other than market gardening or fruit growing. Hits Honor said that after having viewed the property the Court would jpve its decision at a time of which counsel would be notified.
