SMALL N.Z. TEAM FOR TOE OLYMPIAD.
IN FINLAND NEXT YEAR. TOP-OF-THE-WORLD CLASS. COST £300 FOR EACH COMPETITOR (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. _Tbe team which •will represent NewZealand at the Olympic Gatnee at Helsingfore, Finland next year will be a small one, and it will be composed only of competitors who are considered to be in top-of-the-world claee. Recommendations to this effect, from the council, were adopted at the annual meeting of the New Zealand and British Empire Games Association tonight. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Mr. H. McCormick, chairman, said the most important event in the past year wee the sending of a Xew Zealand team to the Empire Games at Sydney. Xew Zealand sent a very large team, in the hope that other nations would be represented by small teams. The New Zealand team met with a fair measure of success. lt^ would cost about £300 a man to send a JNew Zealand team to the Olympic Games next year, added Mr. McCormick and the council had deemed it advieable to send competitors who were in the huheet class. Officers elected:—Patron, the GovernorGeneral. Viscount Galway: vice-patron the Chief Justice. Sir Michael Myerspresident, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Sava«e: vice-presidents, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coatee and Messrs. R. S Glendininjr. R. J. Hobbs. A. T. Davies and the .presidents of affiliated national associations: auditor. Mr. J. H. Turner: chairman, Mr. H. McCormick: co-opted members of council, Messrs. H. McCormick and H. Amos. The 1040 Olympiad has been arranged for Helsinki (the new name for Helsingfors) from July 20 to August 4.
