WRESTLING SEASON.
OPENS ON MONDAY NEXT. The 1939 New Zealand wrestling season opens in the Auckland Town Hall on Monday next, May 1, and on that date Auckland enthusiasts will be offered a match whioh should capture the interest of all. Lofty Blomh'eld, who has returned from Honolulu with u further enhanced reputation as one of the best men in the game in the world—"The International Sporting Blade" of New York listed him No. 2 in the world for 1938 —will be matched on thie occasion with Roland Kirshmeyer, a newcomer whose reputation would mark him as an admirable opponent. In height and weight he is stated to be even bigger than Lofty, and behind his professional career of 10 years there is a fine replication ae an amateur. Kirshmeyer learned his wrestling at the Oklahoma Agricultural College, where Earl McCready also "finished off," and in 1928 he just missed selection for America's Olympic team. Since then he has been in the eastern States of the United States and has met some of the toughest men in the game. Kirshmeyer favours the rugged style and in this respect he should find an admirable opponent in Blomfield, who has always shown at his best in contests against wrestlers of that type. Blomfield comes into thie season fresh from a holiday trip which contained just enough wrestling to keep him in top form. As a result, New Zealand this year should see him greatly improved.
