UNUSUAL MISHAP.
RIDER STRUCK BY CLOD.
SYDNEY, April 23.
An unusual mishap in the Tattersall's Gold Cup race at Ranchvick yesterday is estimated to have cost the betting fraternity many thousands of pounds, lost on Cooranga, ridden by E. Bartle.
Just after the start a clod of earth thrown up by the leaders struck Bartle on the bridge of the nose with such force that it dazed him. After that Bartle rode blind, Cooranga finishing about eighth. Bartle was smothered with blood when he returned to the scales.
