POSITION AT WHAKATANE.
(From Our Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, Saturday. The steady downpour which Whakatane is now experiencing has come too late to be of much benefit to farms. The opinion is that little -winter feed will come away. The dry months a serious effect on production of butter, the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company estimating that it will be about 15 per cent down this season, while the Opounao cheese factory's make will probably be about 22 per cent under that of last season. The fall is welcomed by Public Works Department engineers engaged on the reconstruction and eealing of highways around Whakatane, us until the weather broke it vas necessary to cart 40,000 gallons of water daily in order to consolidate the road bed before the priming was sprayed.
