MAYOR'S APPEAL
MORE RECRUITS.
CITY MEETING TO-NIGHT.
REPRESENTATIVE SPEAKERS. Though much work has been done behind scenes, the appeal of the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, for 1000 territorials will be officially inaugurated to-night at a meeting in the Town Hall. Sir Ernest will preside, and speakers will include Mr. W. J. Lyon, M.P. for Waitemata. the Rev. E. T. Olds, Mr. L. P. Leary and Mr. F. C!. Young, president of the Auckland council of the Federation of Labour. A large number of organisations is expected to bo represented.
Committees have formed a plan for the establishment of recruiting depots in the city and suburbs. Eight zones have been formed, as under:—(l) City Central, Newton and Eden Terrace. Depots in vestibule of Strand Arcade, controlled by the Officers' Association branch of the British Legion; vestibule of Queen's Arcade, controlled by the Auckland Rugby Union, vestibule of St. Kevin's Arcade, controlled by the St. John Ambulance Association; and the Town Hall-on Friday, controlled by Mr. A. E. Moore and Mr. T. Davis. (2) Parnell. Depot at Parnell Library, controlled by Auckland Rugby League. (3) Remuera. Depot at Remuera Library, controlled by Major T. H. Oliphant and Mr, H. E. Haines, Other Depots. (4) Orakei and Tamaki. Depots at St. Helier'a Bay Library; and at the Old Mission House, Mission Bay, controlled by Mr. T. Davis and Mr. A. E. Moore. (5) Ponsonby. Depots at Leys Institute and Legion of Frontiersmen. (6) Grey Lynn and Point Chevalier. Depots at Grey Lynn and Point Chevalier libraries, controlled by the local branches of the Returned Soldiers' Association.
(7) Newmarket. Depot in Rialto Theatre entrance, controlled by Mr. G. W. Hutchison in conjunction with the Mayor of Newmarket, Mr. S. Donaldson, (8) Mount Eden. Depots in Mount Edeii Road, controlled by Mr. T. McNab, in conjunction with the Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. R. J. Mills.
The campaign will conclude on Saturday, May 6, and in the interim parades of territorials -will be held; there will be aeroplane flights in formation over the city, while a flying , squad of the motor cycle platoon will appear in different parts of the city.
