SOUTHERN EXCHANGES.

TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH.

BUSINESS AGAIN MEAGRE.

INTEREST IN BREWERIES,

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star."); CHRISTCHURCH, this day

Though free quotations came in for all sections on the Christchurch Exchange this morning business was restricted to one parcel of New Zealand Breweries shares and to a reported sale of Government 4 per cent stock. Government securities had plenty of buyers, but limits were slightly lower than yesterday. The 1949 issue ex interest had quotations adjusted to sellers at £97 10/, compared with last local sales cum interest at £99 10/.

A full list of buyers for bank shares'' found some blanks on the selling side of the sheet. Commercials of Sydney were ■wanted at £20 without selling response and New Zealands were close to business from 38/2 to 38/4, against sales at 38/6 yesterday.

The only insurance quotation was for South British, cum dividend, which found inquiry well sustained at 45/, no selling offer being made. • Sellers of GoMebrough Morts reduced their limits 6d to 29/6 without buying support. The market for Dalgetys was again wide between £6 and £7.

Interest in breweries was spread evenly. New Zea lands 'were steady, but though buying support for Fosters, Carltons and Tooths indicated firm markets no sales were recorded.

There have been very few sales of miscellaneous industrials eince the Kaster recess and though buying offers to-day reflected strength shown in Sydney yesterday sellers stood out for limits that did not encourage dealings. The announcement of several dredging returns in the last two days lent interest to the shares of the larger companies. Arahuras had inquiry up to 28/9, Austral New Zealand were quoted from 2S/9 to 25/, and Grey Rivers appeared slightly easier, sellers dropping to 18/, buyers 2d lower.
