LIFELESS MARKETS.

BUSINESS AT STANDSTILL. SOME AUSTRALIANS FIRMER. Business came to a standstill on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning. Bidding wns even more lifeless than yesterday nnd not a single sale wae made at the tall. In the bankins section buyers raised tlioir ofTerst to 15/10 for Commercials and £12 W)/ for Nationals of Australasia, but neither issue hnd a Keller on the market. New Zealand* were unchanged round £1 IS, , lint the 1) Mortgage iwsiic came closer to business with buyers at £1 6/ and sellers 6d hieher. Several Australian industrials were s-liuhtly firmer, buyers improving their offers'to £2 10/ for Broken Hill Proprietary. £47 15/ for Colonial Sugars, and £2 5/6 for Electrolytic Zincs. G. J. Coles were in keen request at £4 1/, with no sellers in sight. There was little interest i;j New Zeal.ind iesues, although a wider range of (Jovemment securities was quoted and 4 I>er cent 1940-43 stocks came close to business with a market between £98 5/ and £08 10/. Better at Noon. As the morning proceeded there was a moderate inquiry and a fair list of sales was put through at the noon call. A chief feature was a firming in Government sl.uck. the 40-43 issue selling at 7/6 higher at £08 7/6, while the 46-49's were virtually unchanged at £97, a half year's interest having been paid since the last sale.
