WITTY SATIRE.
"THE WOMEN" POPULAR.
How malignant gossip amongst society ladies can wreck innocent lives is told in "The Women," one of the most frankly satirical plays ever shown in Auckland, now at His Majesty's Theatre. Hosts of .Aueklanders are- already enthusing over this work and the many who still intend to see it would be well-adviged to book early, as seats are in heavy demand. The popular actress from the New York stage, Irene Purcell, has the leading role at the head of the cast of 40 women. She gives an excellent performance and the high standard she eets is maintained by every player. One of the most interesting of the. other leade ie Mary Dees, "double" of the late Jean Harlow, who completed the ■film' star's last picture "Saratoga." when she died before it was completed. She has an unsympathetic role as "the other woman/ , but she shows high talent in the aeeurance and conviction with which she handles it. Frank dialogue is a feature of the play and there are some hilarious situations.
