OIL SHALE DEPOSITS.
MOTOR SPIRIT PRODUCTION. (l!y Telegrnph,—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Reference to the Australian project to produce motor spirit from oil shale licjioeits in which he is interested was •mule by Mr. C. F. Davis, head of the On vis (Gelatine Company in Australia, on his arrival by the Awatea from Sydney to-day. He said the project wae in bo developed at Newnes, which was in the Blue Mountains and about ISO miles out of Sydney. Mr. Davis added that very big deposits iif oil shale existed at Newnes, and they were to be worked by hie company, assisted by the State and Federal Gov-i-rnlnents. The prospects for new undertakings were quite good.
"I think we shall be producing 35,000 gallons of motor spirit a day early next year," said Mr. Davis. "The necessary plant is now under construction."
