"REGULAR FELLOW"
PRESIDENT OF U.S.A.
COMING ROYAL VISIT. U.S. AND WORLD POLITICS. The coming visit of the King and Queen of England to the United States was commented on by Mr. F. Murphy, a former United States senator, who is a through passenger by the Monterey, which arrived* at Auckland this morning. His view is that as the result of the visit the relations between Great Britain and America would be cemented.
"Do not let anybody run away with the idea that Mrs. Roosevelt knows nothing about curtsying to the Queen," he said. "The Queen and Mrs. Roosevelt will get together and will be great friends. They will forget all the for-
malities that are associated with Royalty in England. They will be just two splendid types of human beings who are determined to do their ahare in bringing together the peopje of two great Continents." . »
Referring to the international situation, Mr. Murphy, s{.«« that lie would not be surprised if President Roosevelt invited Hitler and Mussolini to a breakfast party in America. "He is great for peace and America may yet become the playground for the world's rulers. "The President has done more for America and for the.world than any other President, including Abraham Lincoln," he continued. "He has tackled problems that no President in the last eighty years has ha<l the nerve to handle." He instanced tho banking law, which was framed to prevent any banking institution becoming insolvent, the Government insisting on the 'securities being sufficient to meet all eventualities, "The President insisted on the savings of the working man being snfe and they have been made eafe," said Mr. Murphy. Other difficulties that have been ironed out by the President included the child Iscbour problem and the liquor question. "President Roosevelt is jitet a regular fellow," he added, "and that phrase has a- wealth of meaning in America,"
