BEST POLICE BRAINS.
GUARDING THEIR MAJESTIES. NORTH AMERICAN TOUR. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) OTTAWA, March 20. The best police braine of three countries will co-operate in safeguarding the live* of the King and Queen when Their Majesties visit Canada and the United States in May. The famous Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada's federal police force, will have the active assistance of Scotland Yard men, long expert in protecting royalty. The United States secret servioe, which guards the President of the United States, will aleo participate directly in the protection plans for the Canadian trip, in addition to Their Majesties' ehorter visit to Washington and New York.
The advice of both the British and 'United "States services will be made available to the R.C.M.P. in detailing ite protection programme for the Royal tour of 3500 miles across Canada and back again. A check-up on the known undesirables in the country will be one of the preliminary precautions. Points on the Canadian-United States border will be closely watched. Admission, to Canada hae already been refused George Andrew McMahon,*who threw a loaded revolver toward Edward VTH. on July 16, 1936, in London.
Significant of the importance attached to the Royal visit by the Press of the United States ie the fact that the Canadian authorities have had applications for 400 American reporters and photographers to accompany Their Majesties across Canada. A special pilot train is being arranged to accommodate newspapermen. # It is still a question whether other than representatives of leading news agencies, including Reuters, the Associated Press and the Canadian Press, will be accepted as correspondents on H.M.S. Repulse bearing the King and Queen across, the Atlantic and back.
