SHORTAGE OF HAY.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
HAMILTON, this day.
A marked shortage of liay, which is Mkely to be acute before the winter ends, exists in the Waikato, the principal causes being wet weather at harvesting time and the fact that owing to the drought farmers have been feeding out large quantities of fodder.
Some farmers are buying hay, from £5 10/ to £6 a ton being ph-en for baled supplies. The demand is further accentuated by disappointing root crops, owing to the ravages of the white butterfly.
