FIGURES FOR FEBHUARY. 1 MANY STATE HOUSES. ____ > The value represented by building permits issued in the Jailer centres in New Zealand -during February was £788.597, a decrease of £112,193 when compared witili January, but an increase of £141.786, or 21.9 per cent, above the total for February, 1938. There were 547 permits issued for the •erection of new dwellings, ae compared with 674 in January, and 435 in Feflwuery, 1938. Included in the dwelling figures for February, 1939. were 261 houses, the construction of which \va6 commenced I>y the housing construction branch of the State Advances Corporation, which during the month also commenced operations on 35 new dwellings in other districts. The total number of alterations to existing buildings and new buildings constructed each month for the past year is as follows: — 1938— Xo. Value. Figures for February, 1939, were: Xew dwellings, 275; other new buildings, 6; alterations, etc., nil; total value £337.756. Of the 275 new dwellings here mentioned 261 were commenced by tihe housing construction branch of the State Advances Corporation, which during the month aleo commenced the construction of 35 new dwellings in other districts.
