FIRST RACE FOR ZUKERMAX CUP.

From an even start the crews jumped awav at a lively pace and raced on even terms for the first 300 yaris. Rasiiussen then moved slowly ahead, and stead.ly increasing his advantage, had about a lengths lead at the half-way mark. At the three-quarter distance Macdonald challenged and closed on the leader, but Rasmussen called on his crew and with a swinging stroke again drew away to cross -the line winners by two lengths.

ST. GEORGE'S CLUB. Tim non-footbnlHng members of the St. George's Rowing Club boated four crews in a set of subscription pair-oar trials over the mile course alongside the Tamaki Drive, and tlie three races were keenly contested. Starting was by mutual consent and club officers ncted as judges. The first heat resulted: K. Piggin and \V. Hogg defeated D. St. tleorge and H. Tong by half a length. The crews raced away from a splendid start and remained on even terms for over half the distance. Then Piggin and Hogg forged slightly ahead but St. George and Tong were soon on even terms. Once the straight Tras entered a hot pace was set and in a most exciting finish Piggin and Hogg crossed the line with a bare half-length to spare. The second heat resnlted : F. Dnstin and R. Speir defeated C. Holmes and C. Hilliard by just over a length. The crews iuinped away to another fine start and were almost even when off the second bridge. Entering the straight Dustin and Speir forged ahead, and. shaking off all challenges, won by just over a length. Final.—F. Dustin and R. Speir defeated E. Piggin and W. Hogg by a length and a half. This was a very even go to the half-way mark where Dustin and Speir opened n slight lead. Approaching Resolution Piggin and Hogg closed up and as the challenge was renewed down the straight an exciting finish was promised. However. Dustin and Speir held too much in reserve and put in a final sprint to cross the line with a length and a half advantage.
