MODEL AEROPLANE NOTES and General Hobbicrafts

THE EASTER CHAMPIONSHIPS. Now Approaching Closing Time. To-day is the hist day of the 10:59 Kaster Championships, and with most of the best chilis competing, we should soon know what is the fate of the big cup this year. As you possibly know, Auckland won this event for three yearn in succession, but as the l'ara Cup was only presented on the second occasion, they were only able to get two "logs'' in. Last year Wellington Club stepped in and won the cup rather handsomely, and though Hamilton, Masterlon, Napier and Christehurch chilis are ail well able to hold their own. I am inclined to think that again the winning club will be one of the two fust-nam'd (Auckland or Wellington). If Wellington get it. they will also have two legs in. and be in a very decided lead, for the cup must he won three times in succession to ho won outright. The events being competed for are spur hand launched and fuselage, lioth indoor and outdoor, with the addition of a hand-launched glider event outdoors. The period of the contest is from April 1 to 15 inclusive, and the clubs fly on their own grounds. Marks for placings are given when all results are in, and so the champion club and the various champions in the scheduled events are decided. Personally, I think that the indoor placing' will greatly determine the filial results, fur, as usual, the outdoor events will depend great ly on woattfer conditions. We understand that a number of the best Myers in the two major clubs are competing indoors, and it will be a.duel between Tod Thornly and Co. from Wellington and the Auckland boyss Up here we have some new talent. Reg. Truman, who has hitherto shone as an outdoor man, recently put up over six minutes in a rather small hall. Neil Grant, Win Craven. Erie Rose, and one or two others, are all "five-minute" possibilities, whilst the veterans V. firav, R. Allen, Ces. Shaw, W. B. Macklcy and Les. Mayn, if they fly, should be good for some ten minute flights (indoors)

between them. I have a feeling that ton minutes will win this year fairly oa.-ily. Down in Wellington I do not know the way the younger ones are coming on. but I hear that tluro is quite a l)it of talent about, so .the contest should be a keen one. and I am inclined to think that no club will run away from the rest. The Waikato Winter Show. This is always a popular event in the North, especially as the Kledisloe Hall of Agriculture i« at the disposal of the contestants for indoor living events.

Admittedly there are a lot of entanglements about at show time, such as hanging lights, trapeze liars, etc.. and the crowded hall is not conducive to the best atmosphere for the frail microfilm covered models. Nevertheless, I have seen some really good flying down there, and no doubt it will again be interesting to flyers from this district. The schedule is as follows:— Workmanship Classes. Junior division (taider IS year* of : —Class. 1: Scale model aeroplane (landplauej ; class 2: scale model aero-

plane (seaplane): cfciss 3: scale model aeroplane (solid balsa type. l/*>o. 1/64 or 1/72 scale); class 4: model aeroplane (own design). OjK?n Division (all ages): —Class 5: (same as class 1); class 0: (same as class 2); class 7: (same as class 3); class S: best contest flying type model aeroplane, indoor; class !•-. best model aeroplane model (contest type, outdoor); class 1<»: petrol model aeroplane, any type. In classes 1. 2. 5 and 6 the scale must be Jin to Ift. Of coinvc, there are a number of other details, but you can get the lull conditions concerning prises, entry fees, etc., from the show authorities yourselves. In the flying events, whi-h will be flown off on June .1, at 2 p.m. sharp, in the Hall, the following classes are scheduled: — f'lasri 11. — Any type model aeroplane hand-launched. Class 12.—Fuselage K.O.C. (lass 13.—Autopiro (H.L. or K. 0.0.). I would like to see a pood contest there this year, and if .luno .". is a public holiday a fair contingent should go down from Auckland.
