CHESTNUT TREE NIGHT.
PRESENTATION MADE. " Neath the spreading chestnut tree.** These words and the latest dance numbers inspired the members of the Auckland Y.W.C.A. to plan a chestnut night to celebrate the presentation by Mrs. Rurtd of the certificates won at the swiirming enrnivai in April. In addition to the certificates, special r.> velty cups were presented to the -vinnin » teams.
The hall was decorated with boughs of chestnut and cut outs of the figures of the dance, and the whole programme carried out the theme, fanning the chestnut, a treasure hunt, and the competition for the best dancers of the chestnut tree. This latter item was won by Misses Thompson and Brown. Supper included special nut savouries and cool drinks with nuts floating on top, also salted peanuts. This was followed by two dances given by Miss Stella Zahara, entitled "The "Traffic Cop," a humorous number, and "Peter Pan."
Among those present were representatives from Milne and Choyce, Grcers, Limited, Training College," the Girl Guides' Association, Waitcmata Swimming Club and Y.W.C.A. members and friends.
Mrs. Rudd, when presenting the certificates, specially thanked those members of the committee who had worked so hard to make the carnival a success and mentioned particularly Misses J. Thomson, S. and J. Zahara and Tilsley.
