GERMAN REPLY.

TO BRITISH POLICY.

Will Not Await Completion Of

Encirclement.

FUEHRER NOT UNDERSTOOD

United Press Association.—CopjriEiit.

BERLIN', April 4.

''Germany can draw only one conclusion from Mr. Chamberlain's latest statement," says the official German News Agency, "namely, that Britain is throwing: all her resources into a policy of encirclement against Germany's vital Continental interests. '"The Fuehrer's speech, apparently, has not been understood by the British Government. For that reason we must again vigorously emphasise that Germany has no intention of waiting until the encirclement net has closed and become unbreakable." Herr Hitler has returned from his Xorth Sea cruise and left for Berlin, en route to Berchtesgaden. With Herr Hitler's return home, says the Independent Cable Service, it is expected the newspapers' "Gott Strafe England*' campaign will increase in asperity. German circles believe Rumania is safely in Germany's pocket, while Yugoslavia's geographical position makes impossible her adherence to the British line-up.

The Berlin savs: "Apparently Mr. Chamberlain wants to hold his umbrella over Germany like the sword of Damocles." BIGGEST JUMP. Germany's National Debt Increase.

STAGGERING FIGURES. (Received 9.30 a.m.) BERLIN, April 4. The German national debt now stands at 28,109,000.000 marks, an increase of over 1,000.000.000 marks, compared with last year. This is the biggest jump since the Nazis seized power. A Brussels message states that German coal imports hav<e fallen 60 ]>er cent owing to restrictions and larger exports to Italy. NAZI ACTIVITY. " A Little Piece Of German Soil In America.'* G-MEN AND THE BUND. (Beceived 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 4. After investigating the GermanAmerica Volksbund, the Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, announces that the members seek to instil and perpetuate in GermanAmericans' minds "pride of their German background and love for Germany." G-Men had found that the Bund leader, Fritz Kuhn, was associated with Herr Hitler in the Munich beer cellar putsch in 1!)23. G-Men also found that the German language is mandatory in Bund schools; that the Stars and Stripes and the Swastika are raised and lowered together at Bund camps; and that one camp is dedicated as "a little piece of German soil in America." The Department found no evidence that the Bund is controlled from Germany, nor any to show whether Storm Troopers drill with firearms. A time bomb exploded shortly after midnight on the street near the car entrance of the German Embassy at Santiago. Chile, slightly damaging the outer wall of the Embassy and breaking several windows. There were no casualties. STATES WARNED. AGREEMENTS WITH BRITAIN. Independent Calile Service. ROME, April 4. The Italian Press warns States approached by Britain to take care. Signor Mussolini's Press spokesman, Signor Gayda, in "II Giornal dTtalia," says: "Let Poland remember what happened to the Franco-Russian guarantee to Czechoslovakia, and remember the fate of others who felt honoured by British and French friendship—Haile Silassie, Chiang Kai-shek, and Dr. Ncgrin. Britain's policy of encirclement of Germany involves a simultaneous blockade of Italy."
