SINGING PAIR.

"SWEETHEARTS" AT ST. JAMES'. No more popular tinging team than Jeanette Mac Donald and Nelson Eddy ha* ever been featured in picture*. Time and again they have charmed theatre audiences with then- songs since first they appeared together in "Naughty Marietta." To-monow, at St. James' Theatre, Aucklatiders will have another chance of aeeing them when their latest release, "Sweethearte," is shown for the first time. Two features of this production are different. First they appear in a film of modern setting, and second the film is mad* in Technicolour. Many factors combined to make "Sweethearts,, perhaps the finest Eddy-Mac-Donald film to date. Victor Herbert wrote the music; W. S. Van Dyke directed. There alone are two facts that place the film in a high category. The leading characters are seen a* a happily-married couple who are starred in a musical comedy ehow, "Sweethearts," which has been running on Broadway for no fewer than six years. Only one thing mare their happiness—they are overworked. They therefore decide to leave and try their luck in Hollywood. Aghast at the thought of losing them, their bombastic manager (a part played superbly by Frank Morgan), with the aid of one of the authors of the show (Miecba Aucr), works out a plan to stop them. The plan goes a little astray and the fun that ensues makes a great comedy as well ae an outstanding musical show. Both the leading players hare ample opportunities of demonstrating their remarkable singing talents.
