RUGBY LEAGUE OPENS THE FOOTBALL SEASON
TO-MORROW'S MATCHES
Trip to England to Inspire Players — Newcomers To ihe Code.
The Auckland Rugby League's season, which will open with four games at Carlaw Park to-morrow, is a most important one in the history of the code. Next week there will be a visit of a team from Sydney clubs and three matches will be played against local clubs, the first on Easter Saturday. Later on a New Zealand s^ e ' s ke selected for the third tour of England, and naturally this will give a stimulus to the championship games.
pLAYERS who have been a force in the games in past seasons will be turning out again, and there will be new faces in promoted men. In addition there are a number of recruits to the code who are well known in Dominion football, and their performances will be watched with great interest. Among the newcomers is an All Black Rugby player of last season, H. M. Milliken, of Canterbury, who will be playing for Papakura. , • P a Pakura are to play Mount Albert as the curtain-raiser on Xo. 1 ground and the Mount Albert side includes a Ru-bv representative of last year, B. Donaldson. This season the Australian R. Banham, who was such a success as coach last year, will be playing for Mount Albert." He will arrive oil Monday by the Mariposa and is bringing over a big forward, R.
C daieron. who will also play for Mount Albert. On the Mariposa, too, are the Sydney visitors. Liie game arranged as the principal attraction on Xo. 1 ground, at 3 p.m.. is between Richmond and City. In the latter s ranks is H. Ma tail a, who will strengthen the scrum. City are expected to test Richmond, a crack tram oi last year. On Xo. 2 gTOund two games will also be played.
