NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Xorthcote Borough Council met last night, the Mayor, Mr. K. Martin, presiding. Good Friday Picture*.—The application was granted to screen suitable pictures at the local theatre ou the evening of Good Friday. Scheme No. 13.—The district employment officer wrote that pending linal decision it was considered that Scheme -So. 13 would be continued after A.pril 1. Modern Machinery.—The invitation was accepted to the demonstration of modern constructional machinery at the Whenuapai aerodrome on Saturday afternoon. Football Ground.-The use of Stafford Park was granted for matches and practices during the ensuing season to the Xorthcote and Birkenhead Ramblers League Football Club. Community Sunshine. —Permission was granted to the Community Sunshine Association to take up a street collection at Xorthcote on May 20. Red Cross.—The Mayor etated that he had convened a public meeting for tomorrow evening to form a branch of the Red Cross Society. Watsouia.—The Minister of Agriculture, ) the Hon. W. GLEN EDEN TOWN BOARD. The Glen Eden Town Board met laet evening, Captain A. G. Hackett presiding. Good Friday Pictures. —An application for permission to screen pictures in the Town Hall on Good Friday was declined. Anzac Day Service. —The chairman and clerk were authorised to make the necessary arrangements for the commemorative service to be held on Anzac Day. Playing Areas. —A. communication was submitted from the district committee of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Council requesting attention to the playing areas on the recreation grounds. It was decided to give immediate attention to tlie basketball court and to have the grounds disced and roiled when weather conditions are suitable. Men Over Siity Years.—Advice wae received from the Labour Department that men who have attained the age of 60 years are no longer eligible for work under Scheme 13 and that they should be informed that they may apply for age benefits under the Social Security Act. It was reported that this affected two men only in the employ of the board. Koad Repairs.—The board decided that the engineer be instructed to call tenders lor repairs to Kdenview and Croydon Roads, which are in use as detour routes for the West Coast main highway during the period this road ie closed for the construction of the overhead bridge at Croydon Crossing. Dog Registration.—Mr. A. E. Stout was appointed to complete the registration of dogs for the current year. Theft of Tools.—The foreman reported that the tool shed had been broken into and certain tools stolen, also that drain pipes were stolen from road works in Clayburn Road. Both matters were reported to the police, who have recovered some of the missing articles. Working Foreman.—Twenty-t wo applications were received for the position of working foreman. The task of selecting a suitable man for the position was deferred until a later date.
