HOME FOR NURSES.

AUCKLAND HOSPITAL PLANS BEFORE BOARD. Plans of the proposed additions to the nurses' home at the Auckland Hospital were before the board last evening and are to be referred to the Department of Health for the approval of the Minister, Hon. P. Fraser. The plan*, prepared by the actingarchitect, ;tfr. R. L. Farrcll., provide for a reinforced concrete structure of five bedroom floors, and the Department is also to be advised that it may be necessary for the board to add an additional two bedroom floors to the proposed building. The total estimated cost, providing for five bedroom floors, is £270.000, details being as follows:—Architect's estimate for building, £208,500; alterations and additions to central and western wards, £14,000; electrical, mechanical, heating and elevator equipment, £13,7:50: temporary kitchen and dining room, £4750; architectural and engineering fees, £15.000; contingencies, £13,300. The work comprises the demolition of the existing eastern wins; :uul replacing this with the new building, which will be designed in conformity with earthquake regulations. Provision is mad" for 28!) bedrooms to accommodate 205 nurses. 04 sisters, 14 kitchen staff and six staff. The alterations to the central block will include an extension of the gymnasium ami, social hall, the provision of a flower room, duty room, visitors' room and interviewing room, while the first floor will be replanned to provide fo>the accommodation of five of the executive staff. Dr. J. P. Hastings referred to a previous decision of the board that the proposals should be considered by a consulting architect. The chairman, Mr. Allan .7. Moody, said there was a commendable spirit of cooperation between Mr. Farrell and the consulting architect, which would be to the benefit of the hospital as a whole.
