POLICE OBSTRUCTED.
HOTEI. PORTER FINED. (By Telegraph—Prese Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The finding of eight men hidden in a locked bathroom at the Gresham Hotel by a police sergeant, who visited the premises, led to tne conviction of Stanley Carter, a porter, before Mr. J. H. Liixford, S.M., on March 3, the magistrate, in a reserved judgment given to-day, finding him guilty of obstructing the police and imposing a fine of £6 and costs.
The magistrate said the defendant acted solely with the intention of preventing the police obtaining the necessary evidence to prove certain persons were found on the premises. The evidence wae aleo sufficient to eupport a conviction of inciting or encouraging eight persons to obstruct the police.
