LOCAL BODIES.

MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD

The Mount Roskill Road Board met last night, the chairman, Mr. C. M. McCullough, presiding.

Dangerous Driving.—The Dominion Road School Committee wrote drawing the board's attention to the manner in which motorists were disregarding the pedestrian crossings at the Dominion Road School. The letter was referred to the board's inspector.

Drainage.—The State Advances Corporation intimated that the sum of £1,723 9/6 had been remitted to the board's £1750 sewer drainage account. The Onehunga Borough Council sought permission to discharge sewage into a manhole on the main outfall of the Mount Roskill sewer in Seacliffe Road. The council would undertake to construct a proper emergency overflow to the adjoining creek. The board decided that it could not comply with the request for reasons to be furnished by the clerk to the council.

Board's Assessor.—The Valuer-General advised that it would be necessary for the board to take early steps to give ratepayers an opportunity . of selecting the

person to be appointed the board's assessor for the nest three yeare. The clerk will take the necessary action. Drivers' Licenses.—lt was reported that drivers' licenses issued -numbered 1752, compared with 1627 for the eame period last year. Finance.—The clerk reported a credit balance in the general account of £3924. with £7000 at call.

NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Xorthcote Borough Council met last night, the Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, presiding. Harbour Bridge.—The request of the Waitemata County Council that the council pass a resolution urging the construction of a bridge access over the Waitemata harbour, either as a national undertaking or bv private subsidised enterprise was deferred till next meeting for further information.

Water. —The waterworks engineer. Mr. •Tohn Williamson, reported that during the past month 3.581.500 gallons of water hnd been used, being 148.500 gallons less than for the corresponding period last vear. The surface of Lake Pupuke fell six inches to 4ft 9in below high-tide mark, being one inch lower than at the same date last year.

Buildings.—Nine building permits -were granted, the estimate value being £2797, including motor camp buildings to cost £1500 and a dwelling £800. Provisional approval wae given by the Health Department for establishment of a motor camp at Waimana Peninsula.

Exempted From Rates.—The vacant section adjoining the Methodist Sunday School was exempted from rating, on the ground that the area was used exclusively for Church purposes. The Mayor eaid there was no likelihood of the land ever being sold.

Football Ground.—The application was granted of the Xorthcote and Birkenhead Rucby Football Club for the use of Stafford Park during the ensuing season.

PAPAKURA BOROUGH COUNCIL. The fortnishtly meeting of the Papakura Borough Council was presided over by the Mayor, Mr. S. Evans. Carnival Committee. — The honorary secretary of business queen's committee made application for the use of Prince Edward Park to hold a floral fete on the 25th. and asked for permission to make a charge. The application was granted and permission to charge. The secretary of the League football club also applied for the park on the same date, for the purpose of playing a senior football match in

support of the Sports Queen. The Mayor. in moving the business queen's application be granted, said the arrangesacßts for the floral fete had gone too far to be cancelled. It was decided that the Mayor and two councillors see the Rugby League club, and they were given power to actFootball Ground." — The Papakura Rugby League Club applied' for the use of l*rince Edward Park for the season aa from April 1, training to "commence almost at once.

Art Union Cheque.—A cheque for £7 was forwarded, part proceeds from a recent art union by the" Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs with a-- direction it be applied to a eocial organisation for the relief of distress. The cheque is to be sent to Papakura Social Welfare League. Manurewa Water Complaint.—A letter was received from the Manurewa Borough Council complaining of the failure of the supply to a consumer through want of pressure. The council decided to .ask the Manurewa tK>uncilt© meet them at a conference, for which a delegation wa« appointed to go into" the ' complaint received.

Anti-Gas Training.;-The council appointed -.tessrs. S. X. Godden and W. Landman as their representatives to take a course of anti-gas training at Narrow Xeck on March 27.
