The feature of the opening play yesterday in the Rotorua Bowlinp Club's annual pairs championship was the defeat in the third round of last year's winning combination, M. Walker and J. Hardie Neil. They went down to Com mi n≤ end Flanders (Havelock Northj by 21 points to 10.
Budil. of Rotorua, who was one of the team which was runner-up last year, staited off badly with a defeat against Lundon, of Devonport. but in hie second game he defeated Butler, of Takapuna. Robertson and Livingstone, the Oneliunga pair, maintained their good form and are unbeaten, while others who have secured three wins are McDonald. Northern Palmerston North. Pakes, Rotorua, Higginbotham, Ponsonby, and Rowe Whitioru.
Klliott. Whitiora, and A. Gatland. Onehuiitfrt, who was a meinl>er of Robertson's winning open rinks team, are also undefeated with two wins, both of these teams having taken their bye. Section play will be continued until early on Thursday afrtrnoon, when those who qualify will commence post-section matches. The final should be decided on 1' i iday.
