BUSINESS QUIET
MOST AUSTRALIANS FIRM. TAKANAKIS SLIGHTLY EASIER. Business was fairly cjiuet and there were few- important changes in values at the morning call on the Auckland Stock Exchange. Among local interests Taranaki Oils failed to hold the full extent of yesterday's rise, selling back 4d at 0/6. Reid Rubbers had a strong market between £1 4/3 and £17/. Some Australian industrials advanced and generally this cass was very tinn. Colonial Sugars and Broken Hill Proprietary contributing shares were active at higher levels, while buyers for Australian Glass at £j 12/ and Electrolytic Zinc preferences at £2 10/6 showed an improvement on yesterday's quotations - . Woolworths (Sydney), however, continued their easing trend with sales at £1 3/4 and a final market between £1 3/ and £1 3/6. Banks and insurances were fairly steady and Government stocks showed little alteration 011 yesterday's slightly reduced quotations. National Banks Lower. A chief feature of the noon call was a. sale of National Bank shares at the record low level of 44/, compared with last transaction at 46/3 in January. After the eale buyers dropped out. leaving unsupported sellers at 43/6. Union Banks were asked for at £7 17. 6, with no response from holders. After a. spell of quietness Goldsbrough Morte improved with a sale 1/ higher at 28/. Morning buyers of Taranaki Oil* dropped out. SALES COMPLETED. AT THE 3.15 P.M.
