SOCIAL SECURITY.
From recent correspondence in your columns there seems some ground in the suggestion that the House should be" called together early aiid this problem thrashed out on the floor, there is a great deal of unrest in the country over the fdllOfrifhf points: (1) The large body of present old age pensioners with an increase of 7/6 weekly will be worse off than now owing to the increase of the cost of iivirig and the falling value of ouf currency. (2) Thousands- of workers 60 years of age could not go oh the funds, as they have liabilities, such as buying their ofrh homes, mostly Govefhinerit, and are they to be compelled to par the tax? (3) The Act provides certain benefits for a. certain tax. They say ail tax but only certain benefit?—for the time. (4) Even how the last unemployment tax levy has been paid and covers to May 1 next, so the Government collects l/i-2th frliHi is not due if the .social security scheme starts oh Aptii 1. (3) Finally; it looks, if something is hot done, that there frill be refusal to pay the tax by "passive resistance." and the Courts will be called Upon to define the Act, I. M. GREEX.
