HOTEL THREATENED.
FIERCE SCRUB FIRE.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Monday. A fierce scrub fire, aided by a high wind, swept down this afternoon on the Terraces Hotel, Taiipo, causing the guests and staff to pack their belongings and leave hastily. Firt-fighters, assisted by a change of wind, averted danger at the last minute, when the fire was within thirty yards of the buildings, A wall of flame fifty feet high made an impressive sight. The heat caused service cars and other vehicles to seek safety at the lakeside. The Napier service car was held up for throe hours awaiting the flames to subside so that the road could be negotiated.
