ORGANISER'S DEATH.
AWARD OF £1000 MADE.
SEQUEL TO AX ACCIDENT.
Judgment has been given by the Court of Arbitration in connection with an action by Erena Brown, of Manutuke, near Gisbornc, who sued the NewZealand Workers' Industrial Union of Workers for £1000 compensation and £17 funeral expenses, alleging that licr husband died as a result of injury arising out of, and- in the course of, bis employment. The Court found that the husband was killed by accident arising out of and in the course of his employment, and that his widow was entitled to £1000 compensation and £17 funeral expenses. The judgment stated that plaintiff had been paid £1300 in respect of two accident policies held by her husband, but the amount could not be set oil against the employer's liability, if it existed. The deceased was assistant organiser for the defendant union in the Poverty Bay district, a temporary position which lasted during the shearing season. The claim was heard at Gisbornc in November last, Mr. A. A. Whitehead, of Gisbornc, appearing for the. plaintiff, and Mr. L. P. Leary, of Auckland, for the defendant.
