Estaires—Christmas 1916

WORK WELL DONE And Highly Appreciated rjVELE Imperial Ex-Servicemen's Socia) Club of Palmerston North has made phenomenal progress in the last few months and by its energy has done much to lay, the foundation of a federation of Imperial men throughout the Dominion in which would lie great advantages for the men from Home. In addition to a progressive, businesslike executive, the club has been fortunately blessed with an ideal, indefatigable and enthusiastic hon. secretary in the person of Mr. S. M. Thomson, (ex-Btli Seaforth Highlanders). To mark their appreciation of everything Mr. Thomson has done and the cheery optimism with which he has worked, the executive of the club presented him with a handsome, framed photograph of the committee.

The presentation was made at a function held at the residence of Captain H. H. Allison (ex-Northumberland Fusiliers) president of the club, and Mrs. Allison made a gracious hostess. The captain paid a suitable tribute to Mr. Thomson's invaluable work on behalf of the Imperial ex-servicemen, and trusted the Palmerston North club would long have his services. Mr. Thomson made suitable ackowledgment, and said he had never worked with a committee in which there was greater harmony and better feeling between the members.

A cordial welcome was extended to Mr. G. A. -Pearson representing "The Page," and Mrs. Pearson and their son who were spending part of a holiday at Palmerston North.

CRICKET COMPETITION Bright Batting Displays Fixtures for next Saturday, February 18, in the Auckland R.S.A. cricket competition, will be as follows: —

Grey Lynn v. New Lynn, Outer Domain; Point Chevalier v. Takapuna.. Takapuna; Eden-Roekill v. R.S.A., Walker Park; Parnell v. Oneliunga, Oneliunga; Avondale v. Devonport, Devonport; Newmarket, a bye.

Owing to the decision to postpone last Saturday's games-, because of the Plunket Shield match being reached too late, the fixtures published last Saturday in "The Page" have had to be altered. The games set down for February 4 will take place to-day and those for to-day will take place next Saturday as set out above.

Some bright batting has been witnessed in recent games. McLaughlin, playing for Grey Lynn, repeated his previous century with a further 111 not out (against Devonport) and Roland Tate, for R.S.A. against Avondale, compiled 116 not out in a particularly flawless innings, giving not a single chance.
